What most people don't understand is how you can activate a warranty on a flat iron and the truth is you can to call and mail in the item and the problem with this is if you don't know what you are doing it could take you weeks if not months to do, but not if you but through a salon it won't. The nice thing about buying a salon flat iron is that they will often times take back the flat iron and give you another one while they send the one off and have it fixed or replaced. Just remember that at a salon the products they sell is their secondary income and because of that they want to protect their main source of income.
