How To Hypnotize Yourself Now, This Minute

I'm not going to ask why you've got the urge to hypnotize yourself now but here's some simple steps to follow for how to hypnotize yourself:

1. Pick a quiet spot

Find somewhere that you won't be disturbed. Hang a sign on the door if necessary! And remember to switch off your cell phone otherwise that has an inconvenient habit of ringing or getting a text. I'll swear there's a built in sensor on those things.

2. Decide why you want to hypnotize yourself

You need a goal of some sort for why you want to hypnotize yourself. Even though it's only you setting the goal. It could be to relax or there could be something deeper like getting rid of a habit you no longer want to have. One goal per session is the best way to go.

3. Close your eyes

Strictly, you don't need your eyes closed to be hypnotized. But it's one less distraction and it's also a clue to your body that you're going to be relaxed. So go ahead and let your eyes close.

4. Relax your body

Address each part of your body in turn, working through methodically from head to toes or the other direction. Don't worry about whether or not you know all the precise names for your different body parts. Just get a sense of each part and let it relax, moving on to the next body part just as soon as you're ready.

5. Go down a set of 10 steps

Count from 1 down to 10 as you go from one step to the next. And tell yourself that you're going deeper into a hypnotic trance with every step you take down. Feel yourself getting sleepier and heavier as you go down each step. When you reach the bottom of the steps, let yourself relax into a comfortable chair or sofa or bed that's conveniently there, waiting for your arrival.

6. Address your goal

In your mind, address the goal that's the aim of this session. Thank your body for the help it's given to you so far and ask it for more help in the future but maybe tackled slightly differently (to cover any side effects you've noticed in your life so far). Ask your body to come up with a few different ways to solve the problem and trust it to work out the best way to deal with it for you.

7. Climb back up the steps

To bring yourself out of your hypnotic trance, count up from 10 through to 1, bringing yourself more awake as you do so. By the time you reach number 1, tell yourself that you'll awaken refreshed and alert.

Congratulations, you've just learned how to hypnotize yourself!
