Samsung Helps Consumers Go Green

In honor of Earth Day on April 22, Americans throughout the country will participate in various events and organized initiatives to draw attention to the environmental issues plaguing our planet and our health. But change can only take place when we consider the environment every day of the year. This means being conscious of our carbon footprint and taking the necessary steps to go green, even when it comes to electronics.

Little changes in our daily lives, like properly disposing of a Samsung Netbook or purchasing energy-saving products, can help the environment in a big way.  Here are a few green tips provided by Samsung Electronics, leaders in high-tech electronics manufacturing and digital media.

Don't trash it – Recycle. Whether you're ready for a technology upgrade or need a new product to replace a broken one, don't throw away your unwanted electronic devices. Samsung offers an easy recycling program, making it easy to recycle everything from an empty Samsung toner cartridge to unwanted cell phones. Consumers can drop off electronic parts and products at more than 1,000 designated locations across the country or mail in Samsung battery packs and empty toner cartridges.

Ditch wasteful packaging. According to Samsung, the company offers many products that are packaged with earth-friendly materials such as recycled paper and soy ink. Some even come with a virtual user guide instead of a printed paper guide. Whether you're buying a new Samsung cable or a smart phone, look for earth-friendly packaging and remember to recycle it when you're done unwrapping.

Purchase recycled products. Many people know about electronic recycling programs; after all, recycling has been around for a while now. However, what they may not know is that Samsung – and many other electronic manufacturers -- offers products made from recycled items. Through the Samsung Replenish and Samsung Restore programs, consumers can purchase phones that are made with recycled plastics.

Understand eco-efficiency. There are many ways people can be eco-conscious and responsible in their daily lives, especially when it comes to using electronics and appliances. Samsung reminds users to adjust their TV settings, print on both sides of the paper and consider washing clothes in cold water to save energy and money.
